Palm leaf inspired Art

Copper, Marble and Palm trees have had it 'HUGE' this year! I mean H&M is killing it with their new homeware range featuring countless pieces of copper and marble decorations. So I thought I would recreate my own inexpensive version. I revamped this old box and turned it in to something classy.

For this you will need: a old storage box you wish to decorate, a pair of scissors, a piece of card, a stencil of your choice (it doesn't have to be palm tree leaves) and some tape oh and a paint brush obviously.

Once you have your chosen design experiment with a few sizes to see the possible outcomes. I personally went with the bigger one, go ahead and print it out. You then want to trace it on to some card and cut the stencil out. Be extremely careful and patient when doing this because it can rip! (but that's what the tape is for right..)

Now you can start painting, you want to use a small amount of paint simply because a lot can result in awful splodges of paint accumulating at the bottom. A little goes a long way (remember that). You may want to use additional tape to hold the stencil down firmly on the sides.

After painting  few palm tree leaves it should start coming together. Alternate the position of the leaf, tilt it in different directions to create a pattern that flows. However, if you want you can line your stencil straight horizontally or vertically to create a symmetrical pattern.

Here's the finished product. A basic box turned in to something rather refined and classy! Now you can deck your room out in the latest trends this Autumn with your fall inspired room art.

A little close up of the final piece. The copper really stands out against the plain storage box making a subtle statement.
